Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type:
Serum/plasma and 24-hour urine
Container/Tube:
Plasma: Light-green top
Serum: Gold top or red top
Urine: 24-hour collection jug
Collection Instructions:
1. Have the patient void and discard this urine
specimen. Record time, as this is the beginning of the 24 hour
collection.
2. Collect and refrigerate all urine voided by the patient for the
next 24 hours and keep refrigerated. Note the exact time the
test was started and completed on the order, plus the height and
weight of the patient.
3. The blood specimen will be collected sometime during the 24 hour
period.
