Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type:

Preferred: Whole blood

Container/Tube:

Whole blood: 6-mL lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: 6 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 3 mL
Collection Instructions: Specimen must be collected at HRRMC

Tube must be appropriately labeled with a blood bank armband.
Additional Information:

1. The number of units to be cross-matched should be specified.

2. The urgency of the request, whether STAT or routine, also must be made known to the Blood Bank when ordered.
