Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type:

Preferred: Whole blood

Container/Tube:

Preferred: 6-mL lavender top (EDTA)

Specimen Volume: 6 mL

Specimen Minimum Volume: 3 mL

Collection Instructions: If the patient is pre-op, inpatient,  or there is a possibility of transfusion, a properly labeled armband must accompany the tube and applied to the patient at the bedside.
