Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type:

Preferred: Urine, 24 hour

Acceptable: Urine, random

Container/Tube: 24-hour urine container or random urine container

Specimen Volume: Entire collection

Collection Instructions:

1. For a 24 hour collection: discard the first urine specimen taken at the beginning of the 24 hour period and collect all others including the one at the end of the time period.  

2. No preservatives are necessary.

Reference Values

Random: 12.0-75.0 mmol/L

24 hour: 25.0-125.0 mmol/24 hr
