Specimen Requirements

Volume and frequency of blood removal must be specified by physician, but generally one unit (400 mL) is removed.

 

A Hemoglobin and/or Hematocrit must be performed prior to the phlebotomy to determine if the phlebotomy is necessary for the patient, as specified by the physician.
